Hello and welcome to the April edition of the Pennyblackmusic magazine. Our lead interview this month is with Canadian rockers Alexisonfire. The five piece Ontario-based band have received great acclaim for their unique blend of hardcore and melody, and have been playing to increasingly wide audiences since releasing their much acclaimed 'Crisis' album in October of last year. Adrian Huggins meets the group at a gig in Newcastle on the last UK date of their latest European tour and speaks to them about their hard touring schedule, 'Crisis', their solo projects and the worldwide emergence of Canadian hardcore rock. In our other main interviews this month, Anthony Strutt talks to Black Box Recorder singer Sarah Nixey about her new solo album 'Sing, Memory' ; Mark Rowland chats to Alabama-born garage rock 'n' roller and One Little Indian signing Dan Sartain and Sarah Johnson speaks to new Domino act, alternative rockers Psaap. There are interviews as well with James Chapman, the main man behind electronic act Maps who have just signed to Mute Records ; American producer, engineer and mixer Pete Weiss who is back for a third intefrview with us : punk metal act A Wilhelm Scream, up-and-coming Watford-based band Electric Cinema who combine their music with strong cinematic images, and the Mancurian alt. country/folk group Brides of Neptune who as some readers will have seen have created a stir in recent months on our Message Baord. In our profiles section, Denzil Watson examines the three latest re-releases from reissue label by brooding 80's cult act the Comsat Angels, while Jamie Rowland looks at 'Worlds in Flux', the new DVD of Semiconductor, the project of UK artists Ruth Jarman and Joe Gerhardt, who collaborate together on sound-films, music videos and live animation. In our live section we have reviews of recent shows by Ash, Long Blondes, Isis, Frames, James Yorkston, Frank Turner, Grizzly Bear, Menonoma, Sarah Nixey and Castanets. In our features section, Neil Palmer tells how the Flaming Lips 'Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots' helped to restore his marriage in our 'Soundtracks of Our Lives' column ; in his regular ' Condemned to Rock 'N' Roll' column Ben Howarth questions the thought behind reformed political rockers Rage Against the Machine's recent attempt to shut down the stock exchange by playing an uninvited concert, while there is a Photoscapes of a recent Good Shoes show by Anna Gudaniec.
