intro

Eclectic Americana-influenced pop on second EP from Manchester four-piece, the Goodbye Plot

The Goodbye Plot are described as Manchester indie pop. 'The Silent Fanfare' is their second EP, and is a three track CD of their material. They are Jon Muraca, Bryan Chappell, Gareth Price and Mark Warburton. The first track 'Bruise', reminds me of the kind of folksy American Radio 2 type music, 'Country Roads' and 'Wichita Lineman', those kinds of records, but more upbeat and not really as memorable. The second song, 'Break in the Line' is more melancholic in sound, like sitting in a cafe on your own, after you've just said goodbye to someone, watching the rain pouring down the windows and the neon lights reflect off the puddles. The final track, 'The Trawler', has more of a 60's influence, and, whilst sounding jolly on the surface, there's a nagging sadness underlying it's catchy guitar riff. At first listen, I wasn't all that caught by 'Bruise', but the other two tracks on this EP had me more interested and the different styles of music being played show that they are not just another Manchester indie band.
