intro
Dreamily ambient debut album from California-based shoegazing duo, the Year Zero
Is this a concept album? If it is it certainly isn’t anything like those of the 70's that gave them such a bad name. This is a concept album for an indie post-Pixies generation brought up the with ambient soundscapes of the dance music scene. Lil de la Mora’s floating ethereal vocals combine with the music to make you feel like you are travelling through time and space. The music and vocals were layered together on a four track, giving a lo-fi sound to the future. The artwork by Rodney Sellars, the other half of The Year Zero, is apparently very much a part of the the album. They are sci-fi fantasy cityscapes set in the future land evoked by the music and can be seen in its entirety on the band’s website and myspace site. I really like the album, although I am not so sure about the art work, but this is pleasant floaty indie music for sitting relaxing to, or for keeping calm to when driving. The only downside is that you might fall asleep by the end !
