intro
Middle-of-the-road second single from Lily Allen, whose Dad Keith gace the world 'Vindaloo' and sung with New Order
'Smile' is the second single from the 21 year old daughter of Keith Allen. You know ? The guy who gave the world 'Vindaloo' and sung with New Order. Miss Allen is not indie at all. Her debut album, 'Alright Now',will be a runaway hit. Her first 7 inch is already on eBay selling at £100 and she is already booked for a gig at the London Astoria in the autumn, but to my ear she isn't clever. She is just stating the facts of being a modern girl of today. 'Smile' is a pop tune with reggae based beats and tells of her revenge on her two timing boyfriend. The first B side, 'Cheryl Tweedy', is better. Her vocals recall Black Box Recorder's Sarah Nixey. While the beats on this too are again pop based, the other track 'Absolutely Nothing' has more of a rhythm and features a band. Her words float over the top of the band who sound like a poppy version of the Cure.
