intro
Hypnotising tribal-sounding collection of live and studio recordings from Congo-based World music act Konono No 1
The most hypnotizing effect from a CD in recent months comes from the Congo as Konono No1 empower their rowsch percussion and keyboard instrument rumble onto the world outside of deep Africa. 'Congotronics' is an album that will leave you speechless. The tracks bang on relentlessly, working their way up to a great momentum, when the vibes from makeshift and regular instruments splash together in an orgy of tribal sonics. The CD is compiled from live and studio recordings done outside of the Congo . Back home Konono No1 must sound like one of the most thrilling performers of music around, so until you get to Kinshasa and similar places yourself, you will have to do with this excellent document of Mingiedi and Makuntima's magnificent likembé percussion on a Belgian CD. There's more to follow under the banner of Congotronics. For more information see the Crammed Discs website .
