intro
Sweet-sounding ballad from the usually hardcore Reggie and the Fulkl Effect, the fictionalized band of multi-instrumentalist and singer James Dewees
This sounds very 80's with the synths looping throughout the song, but in a good way, not a contrived "lets sound retro" manner. It is just a really sweet sounding song. When listening to this song, it's not hard to imagine singer James Dewees in the situation he's singing about here, in some sort of love troubled way. Everything about the song gives that feeling. It is incredibly atmospheric, without being over indulgent or too "me me me". It is, despite the fact that Dewees plays everything here and Reggie and the Full Effect are a fictionalized band, very real. I liked this song, until I checked out some more of the Reggie and the Full Effect's songs. Now I love it! Dewees and Reggie and the Full Effect don't just do sweet little ballads all the time. They also rock. Other songs are much more in the hardcore genre, and to me this just makes 'Take Me Home, Please' even better, as it feels that bit more authentic and heart felt. Dewees gives a real feeling of being an outcast who is content in his own world without a care as to what anybody else thinks of him. I do prefer the “rock” version of the song which appears on this single's B side, but either song is great. I urge anybody reading this to check out Reggie and the Full Effect. Dewees is far too good to go unnoticed by the masses.
