intro
Double A-sided part enjoyable, part disappointing 7" indiepop from Brighton act the Customers
Well this, as they say, is a game of two halves. The Customers are based in Brighton, and there are five of them - Will, Gregg, Steve, Gabriel and Joe. This is to be released on 500 7" vinyl singles, as seems to be the fashion at the moment, but don't worry. You can usually find the tracks to download or listen to on Myspace which seems to be the way a lot of unsigned bands are getting their music heard at the moment. This band have theirs on their website, so you don't need to brave the 80's hair-do "my friends" pictures. 'Fifty Eight' is sung by Gregg and its cheerful tune belies its murderous lyrical content. It is really rather good. 'Torch' is sung by Gabriel and I have mixed feelings about this track. Musically it starts slowly, and gets faster with a climactic ending which really draws you in. The problem for me is that Gabriel's singing reminds me far too much of Coldplay's Chris Martin, and I find Chris Martin to be too whiney for my tastes. I find myself wishing it was sung by Gregg.
