intro
Energetic first full-length CD from Leicester-based punks, whose previous hardcore leanings are now showing an increasing pop edge
My Awesome Compilation follow up their debut mini-album 'The View Is Amazing' with 'Actions', their first full length. 'While The View Is Amazing' was rawkus rock fun it never quite did justice to the band's premier league pop energy. Actions takes things in the other direction, bringing a pop edge to their recordings. ‘You Need Discipline’ takes the jumpy singalong route in a way sure to please the kids in the front row. Moreover it should also be capable of bringing a smile to the face of the bitter old hacks propping up the bar at the back. In breadth alone 'Actions' is impressive and the indie pop of ‘Awake’ sounds a million miles away from the last single ‘Put Up A Fight’ and rawkus ‘Actions’. ‘As Always’ – also a highlight of 'The View Is Amazing' – gets a bit of a polish for this release but loses some of the raw power of the earlier version. In fact the polish here sometimes threatens to again obscure the attraction of the band. In the end though the band’s evolving charm comes through and 'Actions' shows them as ever more deserving of their growing hype.
