intro
Largely uninspiring EP from new Leeds 5 piece Stateless, which takes in elements of Radiohead and Coldplay
Stateless are a new Leeds 5 piece. The title track opens the EP up and combines Portishead type beats with distorted vocals, that recall both Thom Yorke’s from Radiohead’s’ angst and Chris Martin from Coldplay’s lifeless passion on an off day. ‘Exit’ has big bassy drums and two sets of distorted vocals. It again sounds like Thom Yorke’s bunch with trip hop beats. “Inscape’, by far the strongest track, is haunting and spacey, with a vocal that sounds like that of a male Beth Orton. ‘Bluetrance’ is in the vein of Massive Attack, but is marred by Chris Martin style lyrics. It has a strong build up of guitars, synths and trumpets before it comes down softly at the end. Fine if you like that sort of thing......
