intro
Classy debut album from Spanish act the Zinedines whose mix of 60's rickenbacker pop merges elements of mid-period Beatles with Byrds style guitar lines
The Zinedines hail from Spain and on this CD they play a perfect mix of 60's rickenbacker pop flavoured by mid period drug- infused Beatles and jangle it all up with Byrds style guitar lines And, to add a bit more depth still, George Harrison sitar. The CD kicks off with 'Twice Upon a Time', which has Byrds-style vocals to match its rickenbacker guitars, but updates its sound to make it perfect for this century. The title track 'Take Me, Take Me' starts off sounding like The Who, but when it really kicks in it sounds like the Teenage Fan Club playing an updated version of the Beatles 'Daytripper' . 'I'm Not Me' is again Byrds/Beatles flavoured, a perfect mix of both bands, while 'Diggin' Everything' has a mid 60's Lennon vocal and is backed by a sitar. 'I Know Your Bird' is again sitar based, very lightweight and fluffy, but also with some great lead guitar and a strong Harrison harmony-based vocal. 'Together' is acoustic based and slowly delivered, while 'Garage Flying Saucers Stoning' is a groovy 'Revolver' -era Beatles style track especially vocal wise. The organ sounds like The Fuzztones. It is bloody marvellous. 'Over You' is again slow Harrison flavoured pop. 'It's All Around You' is much heavier than the rest of the album and sounds like the Who. 'Still Running Clocks' comes in at under a minute and is slow- paced. 'We All Look Quite Good' is light 60's tinged pop. It ends with 'Mantra Two' which has backwards guitar, is sitar heavy, and very 1967. 'Take Me, Take Me' is very cool retro. It has all been done before but the Zinedines do it all with a great deal of class and this is a very fine album indeed.
