intro
Ferocious and gritty new record from Toronto-based hardcore breakneck act Knifehandchop, which nevertheless proves to be surprisingly free of samples
Gabber and hardcore may not be dominating charts, both influences fuelled on the Knifehandchop debut on Tigerbeat 6. 'How I Left You' shows the Toronto kid building up thick beat attacks with breathtaking speed. The great surprise is how much Knifehandchop shocks with his merging of ferocious rhythms , but at the same time uses up very few samples to actually attract attention. Stunning dancefloor newbies like 'Outside' and 'Tizzy Tixbown Riddim' fuse a joyous ragga and house feel with gritty breaks. 'How I Left You' finds moments of glory in manga cartoon sounds with a hiphop flavour which adds the dimension breakcore lacks to gain popularity. OK, most breakcore fetishists aren't after stardom but with Knifehandchop one begets the feeling he would and could enjoy playing to a greater audience. 'Girlfriend' has a perfect happy hardcore touch and some sweet piano lick repetition. On a scale of Shitmat and Parasite, Knifehandchop is the pappiest of the bunch. Positively breakcore though, yet not bleeding your ears. This year Santa should give you Knifehandchop and when you are one year older, you may have a Shitmat record.
