intro
Laid back dance-based 7" from Seelenluft, which features ex-Jesus and Mary Chain Jim Reid on one of its tracks
The last time I spoke to Jim Reid it was at the 12 Bar Club in London, where he was playing a show, back in the spring of this year. He told me that being a father was the best thing that has ever happened to him. That gig was also possibly his last ever gig, as he has now sold his London house and moved down to Devon. I picked this up in Manchester and have not seen it elsewhere. It is only available on 7 inch vinyl which plays at 33 and a third RPM. It is also very pricey. 'I Can See Clearly', which features Jim on vocals, finds him in typical lyrical territory. The music is dance-based, but has a slightly sinister sound and features Velvet Underground style guitars. It sounds like a trendy dance number and has Jim stating over the top "Don"t p**s on me" and "It ain"t cool", all of which he delivers very slowly and gracefully. 'Pleasureboy'is more commercial, and could be a hit if on the right dance label. It has a Euro flavoured summery sound and the vocals, which are sung by Olivera Stanimirov, are reminiscent of Sarah Blackwood from Dubstar and Client and Sarah Nixey from Black Box Recorder. Both tracks are very cool and laid back.
