intro
Impressive album from Greek musician, Peekah Taylor, which "adds more zist to computer generated music than these days the entire Warp stable of artists could manage"
He may be operating in the Aphex Twin idiom, but Peekay Tayloh born as P. Kakaroglou and presumably, like the Poeta Negra label, from Greece adds more zist to computer generated music than these days the Warp stable of artists could manage. Regard this as a cliché but the fiery, mediterranean temperament of Peekay Tayloh is exactly what may be lacking from northern elektronic music. By the way. In future, do spell elektronic with the letter k, as elektra is greek after all. Call me a geek ! Yet I'm right. 'Sofa O.D.' does deliver the digital goods in one stretch. It is worth the effort, and also maybe compulsory. Vigour is stamped on it and all the way through 'Soda O.D.' It leaps up and down, seamlessly tweaking and soulfully twisting. This complexity faces a stark contrast with its other emotionally driven compositions. 'Sofa O.D.' predominantly is a one man effort and its strength comes from Peekay's repulsion towards his very own and thorough evocation of digitalism. Blooming rhythms may get you turned on .but as soon as Peekay hits one key on his board you enter a new dimension. Hard hitting percussion adds a dramatic flavour. This Peekay Tayloh indeed sounds fine until you'd have to agree that the album's highlight 'Kill Your Boss' also is a true classic. It's a track that alone makes it worth the purchasing House beats with sketchy fills and percussion surprises are delivered as promised in the title. But there is no relief! You may relax but anger leads you through. With 'Sofa O.D.' you love to fall off the coach, climb back and do it all over.
