Rakes - 22 Grand Job
Label: Trash Aesthetics
Format: 7"

intro

Intriguing collection of Brit pop, grunge and punk on debut single from the Rakes, which, ultra-limited, is already proving much sought after

This is the Rakes debut single. It has come out on Trash Aesthetics, the same label that released the first Bloc Party record and, packaged in red vinyl, is only available in a very limited edition of just 500 copies. Even though this is a new release, not many shops are stocking it and it is already being sold on ebay for £21 plus a copy. The A side '22 Grand Job' is very short, and is fast and punky with a mufflied style vocal. The music itself is lost , very lost and falls somewhere between Brit pop, grunge and punk. The B side, 'Something Clicked and I Fell Off the Edge' is thrashy. The bass is full on. The vocal is spoken in a fast story telling way before it turns into a howl. The drumming is even faster than the guitar. Imagine Warren Zevon"s 'Werewolves of London', but at played the wrong speed and punked up with guitars and you will sort of get the direction of this.
