intro
Competent, but not very well focused second EP from popular German group, Avacado Club whose first EP was a dance floor smash
'Too Much Space To Walk Away' is the second release by Avocado Club. This German band have already celebrated success with their first EP 'Girls Use Deodorant These Days' which was played on dance floors in many countries. The title song of the new EP, 'Too Much Space To Walk Away', is easy to get into. The music is fairly mellow and is lead by guitars which still manage to drift off into the background time from time. "There is too much pace for us to walk away" sings Bendrik Muhs, the lead singer. At the end of the song female vocals appear asking "What would you do if I turned you away ? /Would you pretend there were reasons to stay ? " They repeat the lines and then fade away at the end. Personally, I find 'All Of Your Gum', the second track, much more inspiring. The music is far more unpredictable. It certainly can't be denied that there is a Primal Scream influence here and that they use similar sound effects. I have to be honest though. It does sound great, but I do worry about its over close resemblance to the music on Primal Scream's 'Vanishing Point' and 'Screamadelica' albums. 'The Side Walk Of Days' just doesn't seem to quite fit the rest of the EP. The tune is far too laid back and the trumpet in the background leaves you with a big question mark. The EP closes with the gentle tune of 'Saturday Karma'. Avocad Club have plenty going for them. 'Too Much Space To Walk Away' proves that well enough. Considering the variety of the music in it, involved though, it seems that it may still take some time yet before the band clarifies its character
