"Charming" farewell release from German indie punk-pop group, the Pop Tarts
The first time I got to know this German foursome was at the Emmaboda festival here in Sweden two years ago. They played some charming punk-pop, and the girls (and boy) seemed to have great fun while playing, breaking up into laughter every now and then. But even though it was great, I never bothered to check them out on record, and I almost forgot about them until I got a 7” single more than a year ago. It was the 'Bert Melken' EP, and I liked it right away, especially their cover version of the Ramones classic 'Oh Oh I Love Her So', which the Pop Tarts changed to 'Oh Oh I Love Him So', of course. And now, after the band have split up, Bungalow have released their final single, and dare I say it is a very nice farewell release. It kicks off with yet another great cover version, this time the original was recorded by the fabulous Undertones back in the late 70’s. Their song was called 'Jump Boys', but, of course, Pop Tarts changed it to… 'Pop Tarts'. It’s that easy to get a song about yourself! Also on this four track EP is a song called 'There’s A Light That Never Goes On', a title obviously stolen from the Morrissey/Marr-classic 'There’s A Light That Never Goes Out', originally released on 'The Queen Is Dead' back in 1986. But the song on this 7” is not actually a cover version, but their own composition. I do feel that some of the melody belongs to that 1986 song. I might be wrong, though. All in all, it’s a very nice EP, and if you liked their previous releases, which includes the nicely titled 'Woman Is The Fuhrer Of The World' album, this is a safe bet for you.
