intro
Powerful return to form from former Inspiral Carpets frontman, Tom Hingley
Since the Inspiral Carpets broke up, frontman Tom Hingley has run a shop and carried on as a solo artist, as well as as also forming a new band called the Lovers. The Lovers played some cracking gigs. Sadly though they only released one CD single 'Work,Rest and Play', which was co-written by fellow lover and ex Wild Swans/Lotus Eater Jem Kelly, before they too broke up. 'Happiness' comes from Tom's second solo album 'Soulfire' which found him returning to the power ballad that he is so great at delivering. "Soulfire' is a cracker of an album that sees a lot of the original Lovers material released for the first time. This EP collects together some nice acoustic tracks from a Janice Long session as well as tracks from both solo albums. 'Keep Britain Untidy', his first solo album, was another good album, but put too much emphasis on the solo acoustic guitar which wasn't really the force that was needed behind Tom's voice to win the new 21st century over. As a result of this, Tom has formed a new version of the Lovers and now plays newer tracks as well as a mixture of good old Inspiral Carpets songs for all those old gits out there who want to relive Madchester.
