It's been twenty one years since the Soft Boys last played here opening for the Psychedelic Furs and tonight sees the twenty first anniversary of 'Underwater Moonlight'. Much of the audience in the Electric Ballroom tonight have been in love with the band for all that time. Always underground and always having a loyal following, most people know the band because of Robyn Hitchcock but the band's other chart selling songwriter is Kimberly Rew of Katrina and The Waves. Tonight the band plough threw most of UM and other gems of that period and also the odd cover, the Byrds arrangement of 'Bells Of Rhymney' as well as a very drugged up to the eyeballs version of Pink Floyd's 'Astronomy Domine'. Throughout the whole set, Kimberly has a stupid grin on his face and it all ends with a jam with both Robyn and Kim doing their best guitar hero axe welding solos on 'Mr Kennedy', a new song which may turn up on the new album, which Robyn informs me may even be released. The Soft Boys are interviewed in the next issue of Independent Underground Sound .
