Nerve’s third EP offers a less commercial twist on the Green Day sound. Those who may be avid detestors of "commercial punk" will surely marvel at the simplistic wiriness of "natural"music and the generous serving of light-hearted Punk as this Scottish three-piece blast their way through seven tracks of excellent pop punk. On all releases there is one track that stands out from the rest, whether it be good or bad but ‘Swimming with Sharks’ provides many, all of which are outstanding. ‘Now or Never’ is a superb song about woman trouble which has a melodic sound, and which is rounded off with some harmonious backing vocals. ‘Soho Disco’ is more humourous, as the lyrics "Asked her out at the checkout./Before I blacked out."proves. The slightly suicidal ‘What More Do You Want From Me?’ depicts the all too familiar despondency of growing up but unlike ballads, where the sadness is retained, the song has an uplifting effect that helps to alleviate the suffering.Last track ‘Jinx’, my own paticular favourite track, finishes the EP off, with a bang and has the strongest lyrics. " I’m lying in my bed with a million thoughts inside my head, well I can never keep my big mouth shut. I try- but I always fuck it up". Credit to these guys for another great EP and for providing a taste of what is to come !
