A picture tells a story. Hydroplane have chosen a fitting photo for their cover. Their new album is a way of getting away from it all for a nice while. A modest classic here. I've always had my doubts with Australian bands, but with Hungry Ghosts, Halo and Hydroplane, Melbourne has quite something on offer. Not that these bands have anything in common. Hydroplane's album has been around for a while. This is the American version of the CD on sale now, but 'The Sound Of Changing Places' is their finest yet. Moulding slow beauties with flirtations of space pop, the songs leave a gentle trace. The album is a pop and paste job. There are nice touches of the Silver Apples and Stereolab, and it echoes with an easy pace. Perhaps it's been done before, yet Hydroplane modestly squeeze in a 100% score with their songs. Bringing bright ideas with a meditative beat, this is a neat and nice combination of pop feel in dreamland.
