Husky Rescue first formed in 2002 and are the brainchild of Marko Nyberg. Nyberg is heavily influenced by cinema, cinematic music and visual art. Based in Helsinki, Finland singer Johanna Kalen and composer Anthony Bentley make up the rest of Husky Rescue. The trio make ambient electro pop music. 'The Long Lost Friend - Special Edition' is a re-release of the band's 2013 album complete with extras remixes and a second disc. While Husky Rescue maintain the gentle electronic-pop leaning sound of their first three albums, 'The Long Lost Friend' goes deeper and is a more refined and subtle record. The album itself is unmistakeably Husky Rescue in its soft and warm electronic sound, and the luscious and calm vocals of Johanna Kalen. The poppier moments are fewer and far between than on their previous albums, although there are a few moments nestled in their that could stand out as 'singles', particularly the wonderful 'Tree House'. It certainly is a more refined and serious album but Husky Rescue's feel is not jeopardised by any means. The second disc takes this subtle and gentle approach much further and is yet again incredibly enjoyable. If disc one was the soundtrack to a mellow evening in, the second disc is definitely the meditative sleep that follows. It is predominantly but not entirely instrumental and has a progressive electronic vibe throughout, comparable to the more straightforward moments of Aphex Twin. Nyberg's love of all things cinematic really comes through on the second disc as it is as atmospheric as it is hypnotic. The freedom Husky Rescue have allowed themselves with this bonus album lets them really delve deep to create something quite transcendental in places.
