intro
Mixed new EP from Texan noise pop/shoegazing outfit Ringo Deathstarr which has been released on coloured and scented ten inch vinyl
Texan noise pop/shoegazing outfit Ringo Deathstarr follow on from their debut LP, 'Colour Trip' and a recent compilation of their early singles, 'Sparkler', with this new 10" EP. Several previous items by Ringo Deathstarr have been released by Club AC30 on coloured vinyl. 'Shadow', as well as being released on 10", has come out on limited edition Japanese cherry blossom coloured and scented vinyl, with Club AC30 taking up the challenge to do the record in both colour and scent. Thheir second studio LP will be released on February 12, almost exactly a year after their debut. 'Shadow' kicks the album off. It opens with big time My Bloody Valentine-style guitars that are multi-layered and textured. These guitars are rough- delivered by Elliot Frazier, while Daniel Coborn's drums are dance-paced. The vocal by Elliot is mostly lush, but at times it is too shouty which lets it down. 'New Way' is more doom-laden, reminiscent of the Pixies until they go wild on the effects peddles. 'Prisms' is a shoegazing number and more my sort of thing. It combines a prime time Cocteau Twins sound with that of the grace of Slowdive. 'Just You' is a cover from one of the songs from the second season of 'Twin Peaks'. It has a perfect Raveonettes feel, making it my favourite track on this mixed EP.
