Red Lorry Yellow Lorry - The Very Best of Red Lorry Yellow Lorry
Label: Cherry Red Records
Format: CD

intro

Enjoyable compilation from Leeds-based cult alternative band Red Lorry Yellow Lorry that is essential listening for Goths and other alternative music fans in particular

Red Lorry Yellow Lorry are a Leeds-based cult alternative band that for a long time in the 80s and early 90s seemed to be just a hair's width from bigger things. They have gained a massive following over the years. It was the late John Peel who took a liking to the band and enjoyed playing and promoting them on his radio broadcasts. Main singer/songwriter guitarist Chris Reed is the supplier of very Ian Curtis-like vocals, which is no bad thing, although in my opinion (and it is only my opinion) Curtis was better. This "Greatest Hits" compilation takes you from the start of the band's recording career in 1982 until the early 1990s. It is a must for any indie/alternative/Goth music fan who keeps a serious music library. With the album having 23 tracks it’s good value for money, coming out on the always reliable Cherry Red label. There are many excellent and well-produced tracks. Some could perhaps even fill the gap that Ian Curtis left when he and his vocals decided it was time to shuffle of this mortal coil that we all so precariously balance on. The earlier songs on the album have a more minimal sound, but as the band changed its line up and core members gained experience it shows in the more ‘technical’ core of the later tracks. The band broke up in 1991 and there was a reformation in 2003 which is still bubbling away to date. For Goths and alternative music fans in particular, this compilation is essential listening
