intro
Enjoyable early 1980s-influenced debut single from new wave/pop band burningpilot
New wave/pop band burningpilot have been around for a good few years now, almost as long in fact now as their fellow Londoners Bloc Party. ‘Accelerate’ was released as a single prior to their debut album, ‘Cold Caller’. Not a cover of the REM Track, it sounds like the Smiths’ ‘Girlfriend in a Coma’, but has speed added to it making it very danceable and like an electronic Jack or Pulp. Great punchy bass and choppy post punk like guitars give it a very early 80’s edge which is no bad thing at all. The B side consists of two remixes. ‘Accelerate (James Rutledge Remix)’ is a 1980s’ style house style remix. It is very club based, but this suits the boundaries of the track. The Adventures’ Close to Home remix of ‘Accelerate’ is a much bigger remix, as if New Order have met with the whole of the 1980s and it has been put into a blender. A thoroughly enjoyable single.
