intro
Splendid vinyl and download only single from former Jack front man, Anthony Reynolds
‘Bees Dream of Flowers and Your Summer's Meadow Breath’ is the splendid latest set of recordings from the former Jack front man, Anthony Reynolds. It is his first release since last December's ‘British Ballads’ album, and is available on both 7 inch and as a download, the latter of which features exclusive tracks. ‘Just So You Know’ appeared on that album and a new version of this appears on both the vinyl and the download. “This is where all the stars bail down”, Anthony says softly at the start. Vashti Bunyan then sings the rest of it. Her vocal is over worldly, and with a whispering cello and guitar backing her, it sounds like a Sunday morning hymn to the earth, and is both beautiful and very gentle. ‘Like the Sun Feeds from Flowers’, which also appears on both versions, features Charlotte Greig, and is sang as a duet. Written by both Anthony and Charlotte, it sounds like it is a camp side song. It is very basic and primitive in sound, but very heart warming too. The final two tracks were recorded for ‘British Ballads’ but not used and are exclusive to the download. ‘Girl With Glasses’, which is more in the spirit of Jack, recalls David Bowie's ‘Fashion’, while on ‘Now It Begins is a moody piano piece in which while Anthony sounds like Scott Walker in the 70s’ with his vocals.
