intro

Well-performed, but confusing new single from bubbling under Manchester trio, I am Kloot

I know people that are convinced that I Am Kloot are genuinely a very good, undervalued band. The Manchester three piece were tagged in with the New Acoustic Movement, a scene that defiantly flopped (despite the fact that a lot of the music was very good, like Kings Of Convenience, Kathryn Williams and the first Alfie singles). With that in mind, I took a long hard listen to their latest single, the first I’ve heard from them. 'From Your Favourite Sky' is by no means a bad song. It’s quite nicely performed, but nothing about it stands out. I Am Kloot are one of those frustrating bands that, to use that terrible expression so often apologetically trawled out when something doesn’t interest you, "do what they do well". Either what they do, well-meaning just left of mainstream indie guitar rock, is of no interest to me, or this band isn’t actually very good despite their technical competence. Or I’m just far too cynical, and have got stuck in just listening to my favourites and not giving fair dues to new bands. That may be true, it’s been quite a while since a brand new band really excited me, but after hearing 'From Your Favourite Sky”'. I’ve no desire to hear anything else from I Am Kloot.
