intro
Worthy debut album from new band Stellastarr*, which "like their fellow NYC bands the Strokes and Interpol"m finds them updating "the past and making it modern"
Stellastarr* hail from the current city of cool, New York. Like their fellow NYC bands the Strokes and Interpol, Stellastarr* update the past and make it modern. Stellastarr's first introduction to British music fans came on a recent tour with the Raveonettes. Stellastarr's debut CD album is for once a classic length. They are very much a band for fans of 80's new wave, even though they themselves are only young kids. The vocals are reminiscent of both Julian Cope and Jarvis Cocker , but at other times sound like those of a softer David Gedge fronting a slower version of Cinerama. The album opens up with 'In The Walls', a killer track, which jangles in the style of the Chameleons. 'Jenny', the album's first single but the band's second, sounds like a much faster Pulp . Other tracks are remiscent of Japan and David Sylvian. A very fine record and very much one for all us sad bastards who like music that reminds us of our youths. A band definitely to watch !
