First-rate combination of garage punk and doo-wop on sixth solo album from American power-pop genius, Ty Segall
Review
Accompanied by a squadron of exclamation marks Ty Segall, today's power pop genius, releases his latest album 'Twins', which will relish the unaware listener with a great treat. His third album this year after the monotonous 'Slaughterhouse' and the bluesy garage of 'Goodbye Bread' has an instant appeal, and kicks off with the overwhelming 'Thank God For Sinners'.
Eager like a little Plastic Bertrand with "a vacuum in my brain", Ty Segall goes crowdsurfing through new wave Spizz Energy punk on 'You're The Doctor', only to introduce you to whizzkid euphoria with the following track, 'Inside Your Heart'. Next on is the single 'The Hill', which oddly enough sounds somewhat wee in the context of this stormer of an album.
'Would You Be My Love' brings summerly buzz-saw garage punk pop par excellence, and followed by a few moments of experiment in noise which leads into the grinding 'Ghost'. Drowning in an upbeat psychosis for a few minutes, freaky frenzy returns on 'Handglams' and young Mr Segall goes Bo Diddley on 'Who Are You'. Yes, Ty has learnt his lessons well. Mashing up garage punk and doo-wop music in one go, with immaculate Fingerspitzengefühl.
