Fast and eloquent avant-garde pop on limited edition vinyl only single from Berlin-based outfit, Stereo Total
Review
As the French lead member with Berlin's Stereo Total, Françoise Cactus has, in what is one of a whole series of slightly controversial ironies, crooned in an inimitable style of free love for over twenty years, Her snidy comment on the role of the female in music on 'Die Frau in der Musik', therefore, puts in perspective what Cactus has done herself in the past two decades. The teaser for the upcoming Stereo Total album, 'Cactus Versus Brezel' - Brezel being her worse half - comes in a limited edition of 500 vinyl copies with the lyrics written on the sleeve. A whore in the kitchen and a cook in bed! She always annoys, she's hysterical!
A subtle hint of the Munich sound, with its bubbling disco touches in a Giorgio Moroder style, recalls a previous label they've been with, DiskoB. This piece of saucy agitpop, however, is just over two minutes. The B-side, 'Das Monstrum', which involves the boogie woogie piano of Captain Blauschimmel (Cpt. Blue Cheese), is an even shorter piece of ramshackle business business, but even snappier still. Most likely it will not be on the album, released in early June. Cactus rants in German and French on it about a demonic poison dame who uses the rollator as a disguise!
Her fast and eloquent style of wit deserves far bigger audiences. In the meantime, you may want to feed the jukebox with these two songs.
