Irritant - Voice of the Siren

Label: Irritant Music
Format: CDS
Musically competent, but somewhat uninspiring latest single from 80's influenced hard rockers Irritant

Review

Put your studded belt on and get ready to flick your black-dyed fringe to one side – Irritant are here to provide a mid-paced radio-friendly incarnation of 80's rock filtered through the sensibilities of the MySpace generation. It's a weird combination: on one side you have the epic melodic guitar solos of Iron Maiden and the NWOBHM, which are superbly expressive (if a little over the top for the average listener), full of doubled harmonies and bright hooks; on the other side you have the rather wimpy vocals peddling the same old clichés, unexciting drumming and predictable song structures. The musical competence is there, but Irritant need to be more than a next-in-line emo/metal band with great guitar solos if they want to broaden their appeal beyond the friends lists on their social network pages.
