At The Waterfront in Norwich Nige Nudds watches a remarkable opening set from new Glasgow-based trio The Pistol Daisys
Article
The Pistol Daisys opened for When Rivers Meet at The Waterfront in Norwich. I expected a snarly guitar, amateurish band, but they pleasantly surprised me and deserve their own live review.
The Pistol Daisys from Glasgow feature Lorna Lynne on guitar and shared vocals with lead singer Belly Rachel, while Lewis Kelly plays drums. The songs are original, catchy, and reminiscent of 70’s/80’s bands, with a mix of rock, dance, and harmony. They displayed impressive confidence onstage and were delightful to watch. The Abba-esque song ‘Calling Your Name’ engaged the audience, and all throughout their set, the crowd responded positively. ‘Crying for Marseille’ featured an impressive interlude that incorporated Abba's ‘Gimme, Gimme, Gimme’ as the middle-eight section. The first single ‘St. Glasgow’, only just released in November 2024, excited the crowd even more.
This band are poised for greater success in the future, emerging as one of rock’s most compelling new acts, with music that bridges cultures, creates new connections, and carves their place in the industry.
