Palace Fires - Nothing Comes Close

Label: Select Label
Format: CDS
Dreamy-sounding latest single, which recalls both the young Jeff Buckley and Nick Drake, from the strongly recommended Palace Fires

Review

'Nothing Comes Close' is as near to perfect to me as I could wish for from a song. It is a song that has been on Palace Fires' My Space page for about a year. Ed Bannard's vocal is dreamy, and he sounds like a young Jeff Buckley or a cleaner, sharper and more confident Nick Drake. He is backed by funk rock bass playing from Mike Buchanan and big sounding guitar lines from Steve Mason and drums from Matt James. 'Peace Be With You', the B side, is as acoustic and charming as you could wish for with a very Nick Drake vocal from Bannard. This is the sound of the real summer, without a lager lout in sight. This is intelligent, well played music. They deserve to be absolutely massive.
