Appealing new EP from durable Australian indiepop trio the Lucksmiths, which features several exlusive and previously unreleased tracks
Review
Oh, how I love the Lucksmiths! There are times when I forget about their wonderful music and great lyrics, but every now and then I put one of their old albums in my CD-player, and get instantly reminded of their brilliance. But, and there is a but here, during the past few years, their records have been less and less brilliant, as they have become more low-key for every album and single released. This is not a development I appreciate, as I am a fan of the Australian trio’s more up-tempo moments. Despite all this, guitarist Marty Donald still writes some of the best lyrics today, Tali White’s voice is still wonderful to listen to and their sound is still great.
Last year, their latest album, 'Warmer Corners', was released worldwide and now Matinée have put out this 4-track EP, with the title track taken from that album. The three additional songs found here are all new and exclusive, and even though they can’t be spoken of as up-tempo, I still like them, especially 'Rue Something', written by Tali.
Hopefully, the guys will release another album soon, and I keep my fingers crossed for more songs like the good old 'Under the Rotunda' or 'Smokers in Love'.
