Review

So another month, another Lucksmiths record. Despite the infrequent appearance of their albums, the Lucksmiths seem to have a new single out every time I check their website (Okay, this is a slight exaggeration, but you get my point – they’re prolific.) Jimmy Tassos’ Matinee is the label of choice for this one, but sadly its on CDS rather than on 7” vinyl. I feel that Jimmy’s creative skills are rather wasted on this format. Alhough I understand why he’s putting his bigger artists out on CDS, it could almost be a, dare I say it, normal label. A common misconception about indiepop is that it is catchy. Actually, the music takes a while to grow on you. I’ve been deceived by this idea before. After one play, therefore, I sit and think “Oh, that’s a bit of a letdown, not as good as their other stuff”, only to find myself completely in love with the song a week later. Well, I didn’t make that mistake this time. 'Midweek Midmornings' is classic Lucksmiths, all simple, effective guitar lines and understated vocals. The B-sides are nearly as good as well. The Lucksmiths are the kind of band that make you feel all warm inside.
