Elegant and husky gentle guitar rock on fourth album from Clayhill, the group of ex Beth Orton guitarist and bassist Ted Barnes and Al Friend and former Sunhouse sinher Gavin Clark
Review
Now four albums in, Clayhill just get better and better. The guitar lines of fex-Beth Orton guitarist and bassist Ted Barnes and Al Friend are elegant and husky, while in former Sunhouse singer Gavin Clark they gave an excellent singer.
'Mine at Last' has elements of all that is great about music, tads of jazz, deep rhythms of soul elegance, hip grooves and fragile lines of guitar that are as strong as those of Nick Drake or Johnny Marr.
On a recent UK tour supporting Beth Orton, they completely stole the show. In losing Ted as a songwriting partner, Beth's new songs show thar not all her magic is down to her alone.
By the middle of this album, it even had me dancing before I returned back to the gentle rain of sunny days and rainbows. The perfect mix for a possible great summer,
