Wolfhounds - EP1

Label: Vollwert Records
Format: CDS
Excellent and fresh-sounding first issue of previously unreleased tracks from 80's post-punk act, the Wolfhounds

Review

The material on this EP from 80's Romford-based post-punk outfit the Wolfhounds predates their 1986 first single, 'Cut the Cake', but was not released at the time. 'Skullface' is as fresh as hearing the Jam for the first time back in 1977. It has a Beatles 1965/1966, but adds a punky element to it that will have you pogoing up and down in seconds. '6000 Acres' sounds like a combination of early Public Image Limited and the Fall, and mixes meaty hooks with Mark E Smith lyricism. 'Rats on a Raft' is reminiscent of the Gang of Four in the way that it adds some funk elements to its post-punk sound for extra edge. It is plain to see why they became favourites with John Peel.
