Classy multi-formatted new single from Morrisey, the first from his 'Refusal' album
Review
‘I’m Throwing My Arms around Paris’ is the first single from Morrissey’s forthcoming ‘Refusal’ album. There are two CD single versions of it and one seven inch version
The title track is Morrissey at his most classy and from its first note until its last. It is Morrissey as both poet and singer, short, sharp and to the point. It doesn't break any new ground but it will have the many faithful many swaying around in their bedrooms to its sweet little tune.
The B side on the first single is ‘Because of My Poor Education’. Here he is crying his heart out to all that choose to listen, backed mostly by a piano, bass and drums. This is a lonesome tune sung by Morrissey as if he was Scott Walker in a ballroom.
‘Shame is the Name’ is the B side on the other CD. It is the better tune, a grower, slow and moody and Morrissey tells us on it what we have always known, that shame makes the world go around.
On the 7 inch, which has been pressed on thin black vinyl and with an inner sleeve which makes getting the record out difficult, the B side is a cover of the Smiths classic, ‘Death of a Disco Dancer.’ A live version from 2007, it is perfectly played and changed slightly.
The inner sleeve has a great photograph of Morrissey and his whole band naked except for a 7 inch vinyl single covering each of their manhoods. Morrissey has pubes. He is human after all.
