Strikingly beautiful limited edition mini-album from Copenhagen band Efterklang, which appeal to fans of music with an epic sound
Review
Not only does 'Under Giant Trees' have some of the loveliest packaging you'll have seen all year, like seemingly everything released on the Leaf Label, it's also strikingly beautiful music.
Copenhagen's Efterklang create wonderful, complex orchestrations using traditional instruments alongside electronic tools such as drum machines. This limited-edition mini-album could be a great way to introduce yourself to their music if you haven't heard them before, or an excellent addition to their previous releases if you're already a fan.
These are big songs, pieces of music that are so layered and textured you can lose yourself completely in the world the band are creating. Even the sparseness of third track 'Hands Playing Butterfly' is deeply enveloping.
Fans of the Leaf Label's output will find this record a key addition to their collection, as will anyone who likes their music on a grand scale, in the vein of Sigur Ros. Well worth breaking into your savings for.
