Divine Comedy - To Die A Virgin

Label: Select Label
Format: CDS
Nostalgic and dramatic second single from the Divine Comedy's new album, 'Victory for the Comic Muse'

Review

‘To Die A Virgin’ is the second single from the Divine Comedy’s debut album for E.M.I, ‘Victory for the Comic Muse’. The title track begins with a sample about giving in to a young man’s desire if a war starts. The song is dramatic but is not as over the top as Neil Hannon has been known to be in the past. A tale of losing one’s cherry, and discovering one’s sexual urges, it is well delivered with a 60’s sense of black and white tinted drama. ‘Absolute Power’, which comes next, is twee in comparison, and is slowly delivered, gentle and easy on the ears. As it moves along it gets a tad bit harder, but only a tad though. ‘Our Mutual Friend’, the first single, appears in a home demo form, but sounds like it was recorded in a massive studio. It is so well presented and fully formed.

Track Listing:-

1 To Die A Virgin
