Potentially self-indulgent reworking by Neil Young with Crazy Horse of his 1990 album. ‘Ragged Glory’
Review
Neil Young, who turns 79 later this year, has had a huge influence on popular music over the last half century. Even Beyonce made a reference to Neil's old band Buffalo Springfield on her latest album!
Now Canadian Neil has added to his ever-expanding catalogue of work with a re-recording of his 1990 LP, ‘Ragged Glory’. The new album has been re-named ‘Fu##in' Up’ and the songs have been re-titled, too. Nils Lofgren has added guitar and piano and the songs are performed very well in a rather raw style. But many are now very long! For example, ‘Chance On Love’ which was originally a lengthy ten minute track now lasts for more than a quarter of an hour!
Some may feel this re-make is rather self-indulgent. Neil Young has said the record is intended as another step towards perfection - aimed at the true Crazy Horse lovers.
Ardent fans may be delighted with the album - but I suspect many might prefer the original version!
