Upbeat fourth album from New Jersey band Bleachers, which involves Taylor Swift and Lana Del Ray producer Jack Antinoff
Review
New Jersey's Jack Antonoff is best known as the producer of choice for many artists - including Taylor Swift, Lorde, Lana Del Ray and many more. But he is a fine multi-instrumentalist musician in his own right too – and he reasserts his credentials on his fourth album, ‘Bleachers’, made with fellow New Jersey band, Bleachers.
Jack Antonoff has written the album's songs and the sound created is rooted partly in the Garden State's rich rock traditions, with strong sax lines and powerful vocals (at their best on ‘Modern Girl’). Elsewhere, retro-flavoured pop rules, featuring superb synth sounds. ‘Tiny Moves’ is a 1980s-style love song and the impressive ‘Alma Mater’ is one of several effective and affecting electronic ballads.
The album title might not be too original but ‘Bleachers’ is a bright and strong record – and, as to be expected with Jack Antonoff in charge, the production values are excellent!
