Upbeat and hopeful new single from West London nine-piece reggae/ska act The Launchers
2020 was supposed to be The Launchers’ year. The nine-piece West London reggae/ska act had finished 2019 on a successful note. They had earned support dates with Madness and the Hackney Colliery Band, their debut single ‘Duffy Mouth’ had reached no.3 in the reggae charts, and their first album ‘The Leader’, which was produced by legendary producer Dave Bascombe (Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears, Peter Gabriel) had won them much acclaim.
Curtailed by the pandemic, they have turned a bad situation to their advantage, and not able to play a booking at the London International Ska Festival used the time instead to record in the midst of lockdown and while unable to meet with each other new single, ‘Rainbow Children’.
‘Rainbow Children’ is impressive, a glorious fusion of mellow beats, punchy male-female vocals, and cascading keyboards, trumpet, saxophone and guitars. Optimistic and sunny in tone, it was written with the aim of providing a message of hope to those who have struggled with restrictions.
With its equally upbeat-in-sound B side ‘Arri’, it is the perfect summer record, looking towards hopefully better times ahead.
