JIM - Falling That You Know

Label: NuNorthern
Format: CDS
Mellow West Coast pop on enjoyable debut EP from JIM, the new project of Crazy P's Jim Baron

Review

Probably coming out of left field for most, Jim Baron’s new strip down project - JIM - presents the listener with four absolute gorgeous tracks, which really achieve a mellow West Coast vibe that summons the spirits of Crosby Stills and Nash as well as the Englishness of Nick Drake. Jim Baron maybe more familiar to some as the co-founder and producer of Nottingham’s deep house stalwarts Crazy P, but this foray into a different musical genre pays off most handsomely. Opening with the gentle and blissful 'Falling That You Know', this extended player plots an intimate course via a superb cover of the Cult's 'Phoenix' (proving that the song is everything, the rest is just production), the Crosby Stills and Nash inspired 'Whisper in the Wind' to the sublime and gentle closing track 'You Know What to Say'. Keeping within a strict sonic palette that superbly compliments Baron’s low key baritone, 'Falling That You Know' acts as a superb calling card for his compositional and production talents. Effortlessly mellow, this is a release which is highly recommended.
