Laurence Pike - Prophecy

Label: Leaf Label
Format: CD
Magnificent third album from experimental musician and multi-instrumentalist Laurence Pike which reflects on the Australian bush fires

Review

Australian solo artist Laurence Pike's third album, which was inspired by Australia's catastrophic wild firees, is pleasantly disturbed. Pleasant because the gorgeous music evokes strong emotions. Disturbed because the circumstances that influenced it were truly dreadful, and most likely will remain to be. Imposing percussion from Pike's drum pad and his keyboard instruments set the tone for this remarkable adventure through sound. The urge to escape or at least prevent the bush fires filters through. Multi-instrumentalist Pike has developed a means to mesmorise his senses in music. 'Prophecy' incorporates a wee bit of jazz music. Freeform yet thoroughly realistic. Music that transcends the feeble push to make a swift little move. Brittle as these sounds may seem, they very much require a next chapter. After I heard the album, I was expecting more. In my ears, 'Prophecy' serves as part 1 to an unfinished symphony and I am awaiting new chapters.
