The daughter of classical pianist Alfred Brendel and opera singer Iris Hermann-Gonzala, Doris Brendel first found fame fronting the Violet Hour, a short-lived funk/blues/jazz band which attracted a cult following at the start of the 1990s as they toured with bigger names like Marillion and Nils Lofgren.
After the Violet Hour broke up in 1992 after releasing just one album ‘The Fire Sermon’, the Oxfordshire-based Brendel began an extensive solo career. She released ‘Eclectica’, her ninth album under her own name last year.
Brendel recently toured the UK with former Marillion singer Fish as a support act and also providing backing vocals during his set.
These photographs of Doris Brendel were taken by Andrew Twambley at a show on the 3rd December at The Ritz in Manchester.
