Anthemic six song EP from Nottingham-based indie guitar band When the Sun Hits
Review
I might sound as though I'm being a bit biased here so if I do give me a nudge, will you?
Having seen When the Sun Hits before on stage, I'm now confronted with a six track EP from an act who can only be described as one of my home city of Nottingham's main rising talents. They are often seen as a shoegaze act, but I think they are more than that.
'Take Lie to Me' is for me by far the strongest track on here, although the other five tracks each hold their own. It is an anthemic indie blast that you will remember for a long time and could also appear on one of your favourite playlists as it's that good.
When the Sun Hits consists of Chris Moore, Rob McLeay, Martin Orton, Rich Davidson and Jez Minton. Signed to Saint Marie Records the band are apparently named after a Slowdive song.
Other tracks on 'Immersed Within your Eyes' are the slower 'Stereoplum' and the brilliant 'Lovedead Town'. Think early 90's with reverb and delay and don't just think shoegaze. The EP finishes with 'Coopers Secret' which picks at you like a drunken swarm of bees, and is housed in a plain card sleeve with a painting by David Cowden.
This EP sounds like something you should be hearing on 6 Music, time and time again. When the Sun Hits are good, very good. When this lot are big don't forget it was me that told you so!
