Supersonic Blues Machine - West of Flushing, South of Frisco

Label: Provogue
Format: CD
Gritty rock and blues debut album by American collective Supersonic Blues Machine, with notable special guests

Review

The debut album from Supersonic Blues Machine, a talented blues rock collective with featured special guests, is 'West of Flushing, South of Frisco'. With seasoned members hailing from Texas to Indiana to Los Angeles, Supersonic Blues Machine creates well-played rock and blues. 'Miracle Man' starts with a dobro guitar twang. The lyric is: “Oh honey, till I take it home…/I think you got it easy.” This is solid blues rock with a touch of Southern fried boogie - earthy and rich. “I’m a miracle man…/Try and do what you can.” Rich roots based rock, 'I Ain’t Fallin’ Again' is gritty with a down and dirty feeling- sonically appealing and instrumentally turbo charged, with guitar, bass and drums pumping in a oneness. 'Running Whiskey' features the distinctive vocal performance of Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top and is an instant album highlight, with stinging electric guitar and a heavy rocking beat. 'Remedy' features Warren Haynes, slide guitarist and vocalist of Allman Brothers Band and Gov’t Mule fame- an absolute album favourite. “It’s the wine turned back to water… /It’s what I feel will save us all.” The twin tandem guitar interplay between Haynes and Supersonic Blues Machine guitarist, singer and songwriter Lance Lopez is remarkable.] 'Bone Bucket Blues' is wailing guitar and dark ominous blues rock that exhibits true grit. 'That’s My Way' starts with a drum based stomp into a riveting guitar lead. 'Ain’t No Love (In The Heart of the City)' is a pure blues - solid and affecting: “Now that you’re gone/You know the sun don’t shine from the city hall to the county line.” 'Can’t Take It No More' features a wailing, crying guitar serenade and 'Let’s Call It A Day' is an album highlight with guest Robben Ford’s tender, beautiful jazz guitar stylings. This is a great guitar album from start to finish - a solid serving of electric blues rock fare - well played and professional.
