Fireteam - Hit List

Label: Botchit and Scarper
Format: Download
Versatile and multi-layered dubstep on stunning new EP from experimental trio, Fireteam

Review

The melting of a belter of a rap tune over blasting breakbeats sets the pace for this EP. There are just three tracks from the Fireteam trio of Mekar, Smokesta and Trimer, whose backgrounds show on this three styles-flavoured download EP in subsequence. On the title track, Mekar is the man with the ammunition on 'Hitlist'. 'Hitlist' is prone to be caned on pirate radio rotation as we speak. Smokesta's time arrives on the second track and with the strutting oddity of 'Who's That Girl?' The bass drops, adding nearly noxious drill-step dub beats. And thus we witness another glorious earthquake of melodic dance music, quite different from the quite macho 'Hitlist' track. On the last track 'Traptastic', Trimer - trimmer spelt with no second m - holds the final 'saying' and brings almost experimental and clearly deep wacko dubstep, which in effect sounds like a vocoder barking. 'Traptastic' comes close to what might be a hiccup rhythm; disorientatingly weird and funny, whilst dragging itself through a smothering of digital beats.
