Thunderous and chaotic yet adventurous third album from Norwegian jazz act, the Hedvig Mollestad Trio
Review
This loud and noisy Norwegian three-piece, which juggles around with freeform avant garde as well as a bonanza of rock, knows few barriers. Led by guitarist Hedvig Mollestad, the trio indulges itself in a six pack of rather thunderous jazz rock thuds. Think Led Zeppelin gone zonk.
The brevity of 'Rastapopoulos' saves the album, as the meandering whirlwind of sound continues. Combining Mollestad's crashingly voluminous guitars with Ellen Brekken and Ivar Bjørnstad's apt bass and drums, 'Enfant Terrible' ultimately sounds like a showcase of cohesion and mathematical perfection. These concise efforts work like magic. Over the course of just six tracks, the Hedvig Mollestad Trio's splattering sonic rock proves highly adventurous, if one listens to it with an open mind. Astute mayhem.
