Melanie Smith takes photographs of ambient Brighton-based duo and visual artists Nordic Giants at the Ruby Lounge in Manchester
Article
Nordic Giants are a two-piece based in Brighton, and their shows are both a visual and aural delight, mixing atmospheric, ambient sounds with driving drum beats and electronic rhythms. Melanie Smith went down to try and summon up some fitting images from a stunning show on their current tour on the 18th February at the Ruby Lounge in Manchester.
They are tribalistic, shamanistic, futuristic and folklore with a soundtrack to match, beautiful music played alongside selected short films which provoke, inspire and take you travelling on an journey into another realm. The pair of mythical creatures (hidden behind a mask of feathers and body paint) carve out some creative soundscapes, They are visually enigmatic, with smouldering fog, strobes, and multi coloured lights, all driving our imagination through their fantasy world. This is one show you absolutely MUST go and see for yourself this year, It is almost a surreal experience, and will leave you feeling like you have just stepped onto another planet.
